Nena Shelley
Librarian / Media

My name is Nena Shelley and I am the librarian/media specialist for grades K-12 at Maranatha Christian Academy.

I attended Catholic schools throughout most of my school years, but came to know Jesus in a real way during my undergraduate college years in Mobile, Alabama.  I joined a Charismatic Baptist Church where I grew in the Lord and in fellowship with other college-age Christians.  During the years, my relationship with the Lord has been my primary concern, along with my children’s spiritual growth.  This desire to listen the voice of the Lord prompted our move to Kansas City.  At this time, I attend Southwest Community Church in Olathe with my oldest daughter and her husband.

I have read from an early age and always enjoyed libraries, so a career in libraries seemed a natural step.  After I met Jesus, I wanted to know what he wanted me to do, so I took courses in from various disciplines.  The choice became Educational Media.  When I graduated, I worked as a librarian in a Catholic High School.  As soon as I could, however, I went on to get a master’s degree in Library Service from the University of Alabama.  After graduation, I became the Library Director of the Fairhope, Alabama Public Library, then moved to the Mobile Public Library system as an Assistant Branch Manager/Children’s Librarian.  When I moved to Kansas City, the job as school librarian at Maranatha Christian Academy opened up and I was able to work at what I loved and be with my children at the same time.

Maranatha Christian Academy has been a great place for me and my children.  I believe that this school is why the Lord had us move to Kansas City!  It still impacts my children as they move through their 20s. They have learned from the personal testimony of their teachers, and still enjoy the relationships that they made during their years here.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:7-9
