Story of MCA
EXCELLENCE IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION SINCE 1974
Maranatha Academy was established in 1974 by Full Faith Church, as a service to the Christian community for families who desire a three-fold purpose in their child’s education: Spiritual Growth; Character Formation; and High Academic Attainment.
In 1999, Maranatha became an independent interdenominational school incorporating under the name of Eastern Kansas Christian Schools, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) corporation. The school is governed by a self-perpetuating school board. Each board member works on a volunteer basis, contributing their personal finances and time to the betterment of the school.
In 2001-02, the Academy contracted with Kansas City, KS Baptist Assn. to purchase the North Campus which currently houses PS – 3rd Grade and the high school gymnasium.
The school originally opened with 49 students while using the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum. Today, Maranatha offers grades PS – 12 in traditional classroom settings serving close to 550 students from over 100 local churches. Over 80 experienced, dedicated faculty and staff members provide training and support services for effective, efficient operation of the school. Academic instruction ranges from meaningful KinderPrep preschool learning experiences to rewarding college credit courses.
Janet Fogh is the Head of School of MCA. Janet Fogh joined MCA as Head of School in June 2017. She has been faithfully serving in Christian education for twenty-two years. Janet brings to MCA a wealth of experience and talents that have already made a significant impact upon Maranatha. In this year of New Beginnings, Janet has brought a motto to Maranatha called The Twelve Words which she has used with staff and students. The Twelve Words, written by Lt. General Garrison H. Davidson state: Be Considerate, Lead by Example, Make Quality A Habit, Continue to Grow. MCA benefits from a diverse and talented faculty and staff, many of whom have invested a considerable amount of years in MCA and Kingdom education.
Maranatha enjoys broad recognition and acknowledgement as a school of excellence through its accreditation by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and AdvancED, the regional accrediting agency for schools and colleges. The school has earned a high level of credibility and success since its establishment.
The vision for our school:We are the academy ( preschool, elementary and secondary) in western Kansas City sought out by Christian parents, locally and internationally, who desire their children to be world changers for our Lord Jesus Christ. We pursue excellence in all we do as we partner with parents and the local church to develop world changing young people. In an educational environment that emphasizes that each student should have a vibrant relationship with Jesus led by the Holy Spirit, we richly equip students with biblical wisdom, help them form godly character and enable them to achieve academic distinction. Our students are thereby transformed to have an impact like Moses, Daniel and Paul. Being so transformed, our students leverage critical thought, Christ-like character and servant’s hands to proclaim Jesus Christ and to revitalize their world.
