I Gave it My All Today
I was talking with a friend awhile back and he shared that when he played basketball as a teenager, his coach had a sign above the door that was used to exit the gym, and the sign said, “I Gave It My All Today!” When he and his teammates left the gym at the end of practice or a game, they’d jump up and slap the sign on the way out as an indication that they had given it their all. I really like this story because it not only encourages each of us to always do our gut-level best, and then some, but also to hold ourselves accountable to doing so.
I wonder how it might affect us as a school if above the inside of each exit door from our school, there was a sign like this. When students left school at the end of the day they could be encouraged to be able to slap the sign (or use something to reach it for shorter stature people like me) as a declaration that they had given it their ALL that day.
As the leader, I want to challenge myself to always do my work as unto the Lord and to “leave it all on the court/field” or in my office, each and every day. When each of us, students and staff alike, go home at the end of the day, hopefully we can honestly say that we have given it our ALL today. I ordered a sign for my office. I challenge you to consider this for your own home, classroom, doorway. Truly, we owe Jesus everything – All of me!
