Morgan Wilcox is a 2019 Award Winner for the NHS Scholarship
Shawnee, KS – The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Morgan Wilcox, a high school senior at Maranatha Christian Academy and member of the NHS, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist. Wilcox was chosen from more than 11,000 applicants and will receive a $3,200 scholarship toward higher education.
For nearly 100 years, NHS members have been making a difference in their schools and communities and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
National Honor Society advisor Kjirsten Abkes says of Wilcox, “Morgan sees the world through a grounded set of priorities. She is willing to hear what others have to say, and she will carefully form her own responses and beliefs based on what she knows to be true. Her perspective is valuable, and she uses that perspective to help others. I have seen her build up other students who may be worried about school or other life events. She encourages people and brings new insights to every situation. Morgan is empathetic and uses that insight to find the silver lining in nearly every circumstance.”
At Maranatha Christian Academy, Wilcox has served as student body president, the junior high girls’ basketball team’s coaching intern, a peer tutor, a member of the school chapel band, and on the school’s mission team. She has also volunteered at various events including serving on her church’s worship team and as a group leader each year at church camp. This fall, she will attend MidAmerica Nazarene to study nursing.
Since 1946, more than $15 million in scholarships has been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
