Elementary Music

Music has been a part of my life as long as I can remember.  Growing up in Olathe, I was involved in everything my schools offered in the way of music.  From Select Choir and the area Honor Band as a young 5th grader, to local and state instrumental and vocal contests every year through college, operas at KSU, and being involved in every church play, program, and praise team available to me,
I have always had something musical in my life.

After graduating from K-State I was blessed to have been able to teach in a Christian school in Manhattan, KS, until stepping down to just be “mom” to my two boys.  During this time I also played piano and led worship at my church, while my husband, a Christian artist and studio engineer/producer traveled and sang around the Midwest or worked on numerous independent projects in our home-based studio.

God moved us back “home” to the Kansas City area in 2007, where we found Maranatha Christian Academy for our boys.  In 2011, God opened a door for me to return to my teaching roots.

I am extremely passionate about the students at MCA receiving a true music education that both helps each student find his/her place musically speaking, and prepares those with musical gifts for excellence in this very competitive and musically rich area.  As I always tell my students, music is one of the few things we will “take with us” when we move to Heaven some day.  Even if not every student has a specific calling in this area, we are all called to “sing to him a new song, play skillfully, and shout for joy.”  Ps 33:3   I believe I am called to instill in each one of my students’ lives the pursuit of God through music.

Psalms 33:3  “sing to him a new song, play skillfully, and shout for joy.”
